The mountainous land in combination with the harsh winter in Metsovo and the wider area, offer you the most ideal conditions to practice winter sports. In the area of Metsovo, there are three ski resorts. On “Karakoli” hillock, right outside Metsovo, there is a ski resort with two ski pistes of 1000 and 1200 meters at an altitude of 1350 meters and 1520 meters respectively, on the east side, which is facilitated by a double ski lift for a distance of 800 meters. Most of the times, it is open from January to February and it offers you the possibility to rent equipment as well as snowmobile vehicles. There is also a ski school and moreover you can enjoy your meal here.

The new ski resort of Metsovo is about to open at the location “Zygos”, of Anilio. Its pistes are situated at an altitude that ranges from 1690 up to 1870 meters. The tableland of “Politses”, “Mavrovouni” and “Peristeri” are ideal for ski mountaineering and the numerous earth-roads are ideal for mountain biking. A bicycle ride all around the lake of Aoos will fascinate you and moreover you can practice kayaking in the lake. In Prophet Elias you will also have the possibility to practice horse-back riding, at the tableland of Politses.

Signposted hiking trails lead from the Prophet Elijah in Flegga Montenegro (alt. 2159 m) After a course of 5 hours and 30 (signal P1). From Metsovo path label P2 leads to Tsouma Barba, in 3 hours and 45 Politsies plateau at 5 hours (signaling P3). From the dam Aoou P4 signaling pathway leads to Tsoukas Rosa, after 6 hours.From Salatouri continue in Valia Kalda arrive to Flegga after 7 hours through trail marking and P6 and Milia signaling pathway leads to P7 Flegga after 5 hours.

Mount Peristeri (alt. 2249 m) is approached by Anthochori in 4 hours and the village Gotista Gkourasa reach the top (altitude, 2185 m) in 4 hours. Under passes and the international path E6 from Syrrako to the top of Peristeri Tsoukarela (alt. 2249 m) And then Anthohori and Metsovo after 13 hours and Metsovo in Vovousa through Arkoudomera Valia Kalda in 11 hours.

If you come to Metsovo during the first weekend of July, you will have the chance to attend the “Reunion of the Vlachs”, as well as festivals that are being held by the “Pan-Hellenic Confederacy of Vlachs’ Cultural Associations” which include speeches, lectures and Vlach celebrations as well.

On the 20th of July, the “Festival of Prophet Elias” that takes place at a small distance from the church that is devoted to Prophet Elias, at an altitude of 1400 meters, is celebrated by the residents and the visitors of Metsovo and it includes singing and dancing. What is more, from 24 to 26 of July, in the municipal division of Anilio, there are festivals organized, called “Aniliotika”, to honor the celebrating temple of Saint Paraskevi. These festivals include long-lasting night celebrations with traditional or folk music bands and a traditional dancing show by the dancing group of the village. In addition, on the 25th of July, the “Cattle-breeders’ Night” is organized which includes the presentation and the prize-awarding of the best animals in the village. On the 26th of July, festivals are also organized to honor Saint Paraskevi- after the procession of the icon of Saint Paraskevi that takes place on that very day, women which are dressed with the traditional local dresses of Metsovo dance in the yard of the church while singing songs in the Vlach dialect.

During the last weekend of July, the so-called “Pichtios Walk” is organized, which includes one night’s stay at “Lakos” location, at Mavrovouni Mountain, at an altitude of 2000 meters, with dancing, singing and fire-lighting. On Sunday morning, a three-hour trekking tour is realized up to the location “Aftia Flenga” in order to enjoy the marvelous sunset, having Valia- Kalda National Park as a background.

On the 6th of August, in the municipal department of Votonossi, a Festival that is dedicated to the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ takes place and it includes the procession of the holy icon and celebrations with folk music bands in the yard of the church, while on the 15th of August, at the central square of Metsovo there are dancing shows under the sounds of traditional folk music and with the voluntary participation of the residents and the visitors as well.

On the 25th of March, in the municipal department of Votonossi, after the established festivals that take place in honor of the National Anniversary, there is a public, traditional celebration in the yard of the church which includes the treat of wine and cod-fish.
